History
In 2019, the City and Visit Fort Collins (VFC) jointly funded an effort to create a Tourism and Destination Master Plan. Work began on the Plan and came to a halt in April 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the engagement, stakeholders noted additional revenue sources would be beneficial to hoteliers. From this discussion came the idea to create a Tourism Improvement District (TID) in Fort Collins to supplement hotel revenues.

Why Is Tourism Important?
Tourism is foundational for Fort Collins’ and Northern Colorado’s thriving economy. The economic activity spurred through the drive for tourism produces thousands of jobs for local residents, grows and develops the small business community, and generates millions in hotel revenues and accompanying taxes to be directly reinvested back into the city through the Tourism Improvement District (TID). Through the TID hotel tax revenue, the out-of-town visitors to Fort Collins directly help fund the services that keep our City safe, clean, and a great place to live too.
